رابرت بارو در کتاب «عقاید اقتصادی در هزاره جدید، هیچ چیز مقدس نیست» به این مساله اشاره میکند که روزگاری شرکتهای هواپیمایی تصور میکردند استخدام مهمانداران زیبارو و خوشتیپ و شیکپوش و در یک کلمه جذاب موجب بهبود وضعیت درآمد و در نتیجه کسب سود توسط بنگاه میشود. یادم هست که هر کس در دهه ۱۳۷۰ شمسی به کیش میرفت به همین مساله اشاره میکرد. اما ظاهرا بعد از دهه ۱۹۹۰ این دیدگاه دستخوش تغییر شده و دیگر زیبایی مهمانداران هواپیما مساله مهمی تلقی نمیشود و گاه مردان و زنانی نسبتا چاق و نازیبا و در یک کلمه ناجذاب را هم در این شغل استخدام میکنند. بههرحال عنصر زیبایی دیگر برای تصدی این شغل چندان اهمیت ندارد. یعنی حالا دیگر مهمانداران هواپیما نه براساس سلیقه مسافران (عمدتا مرد) که براساس میزان توانایی آنها در خدمترسانی و رعایت استانداردهای کارایی و نه برمبنای وضع ظاهری آنها انتخاب میشوند! چه پیشرفت بزرگی! اما پرسش مهم این است که شرکت هواپیمایی باید ببیند چه چیز موجب رضایتخاطرِ بیشترِ مشتریان میشود؟ منظورم این است که یگانه معیار کارایی مهماندار، میزان رضایتخاطر مسافران است. پس زیبایی و جذابیت ظاهری و فیزیکی مهماندار میتواند درست به اندازه هوش، مهارت و تجربه کاری و شخصیت و … بهعنوان شرایط احراز یک شغل اهمیت داشته باشد. ازاینرو استخدام افراد و تعیین دستمزد آنها برمبنای ظاهر و جذابیت فیزیکی اشخاص نوعی تبعیض نیست. یعنی هم فرد جذاب به خود اجازه میدهد برای کار در این مشاغل متقاضی دستمزد بیشتری باشد و هم شرکتهایی مانند شرکت هواپیمایی مایل هستند دستمزد بالاتری برای این افراد پرداخت کنند. اما آیا میتوان هوش را با زیبایی مقایسه کرد؟

شاید نشه این دو مقوله( هوش و زیبایی) بدون در نظر گرفتن برخی شرایط با همدیگه مقایسه و یکی را ارجحیت داد. از یک طرف هوش هم می تونه در جهت مثبت بکار گرفته بشه و هم در جهت منفی که البته هوش در جهت منفی ناخوشایند هستش واز طرف دیگه زیبایی هم یک مقوله کاملا نسبی هستش و مصادیق متفاوتی داره و این نکته وجود داره که فطرت و سرشت ما همیشه به دنبال زیبایی است. شاید بشه گفت که ” ذهن زیبا” برایند و انتخاب خوبی از این دومقوله باشه.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

I agree, us runners should police ourselves and not stand for it. Ive seen this before when a person on a bike was giving motivation to another runner toward the end of a race. A runner next to me began yelling at the biker saying, You cant do that! Thats cheating! The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
